Tour Down Under 2012
Santos Tour Down Under
on Wednesday 18th January 2012 Lobethal hosted a start!
We supported GreenEDGE Cycling, the first Australian pro cycling team to gain a World Tour licence (2012-2013) on its debut tour.
Lobethal promoted the GreenEDGE Cycling team by using team colours of green and yellow to decorate the town. The town is keen to promote good environmental practices. Wheels from donated bikes, recycling plastic drink bottles, borrowing figures made by previous towns along the route, using out-of-date advertising corflutes and making sculptures from left-over materials are some of the ways the people of Lobethal minimised the impact of decorations on the environment.
Our efforts were rewarded. We won Best Dressed Town for 2012.
Thanks to all involved - well done!

Tour Down under 2011
In 2011, Tour Down Under passed through Lobethal's main street, which hasn't happened for a number of years. In recognition of the return of the bikes, the Lobethal Community Association encouraged main street residents and traders to join us in 'dressing the street'.
We didn't win 'best dressed town' this year - the honour went to Macclesfield. However Marston House (residence of Kathryn Featherstone) won best dressed private residence and we showcased both our town and our community spirit.
